Spinnaker Gear - Factory Kit. |
|
This factory kit included all the components to add to
the mast and the bridge that goes across the companionway. The parts shown are Ronstan, 1983 vintage.
Note the
instructions on mounting the bridge across the hatch. It's always nice
to know what the original specifications are. Thanks to Art Brown for
preserving this document from the Seattle SJ23 Club.
NOTE: Because of the poor quality of the original image below, I left the scanned file as full size. Spinnaker Pole Eye - A fixed spinnaker eye will likely not satisfy all sail requirements. Therefore it is advantageous to install an eye on a track. As a rule of thumb the spinnaker pole should intersect the mast at 90 degrees. The height of your spinnaker clew will determine the "sweet" point on the mast where the pole intersects at 90 degrees. From this point you have to consider how much adjustable range you need on the mast. This is usually about 3' long but if in doubt go to 4'. Then install the 4' track between 1.5' above the sweet spot and 2.5' below it. Remember to install the track end stops. Its real embarrassing to lose the ring from the end of the track.
Spinnaker Pole: A spinnaker pole was not part of the kit but if you wish to stay within the rating rule here is the guideline from the manual. "The spinnaker pole may be made of any material and its length shall not exceed 9’ 6”, measured from end to end. A lanyard is permitted. The spinnaker pole must be used and connected to the mast when the spinnaker is set and must be used on the side opposite to that on which the boom is carried." |
